When I was younger (too much younger!) I used to replace brain challenge matters reading Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and Edgar Wallace hero the ineffable Mr Reeder. All of these fiction heroes (Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Mr Reeder) were ineffable in the sense of magic use of the least common sense: Common Sense. Their reasoning had something of logical math. I’m going to try (with your help) to emulate them.
Let’s list public facts about The Little Madeleine story. Please if you consider that someone is missing or not clearly presented please do not hesitate to warn me. The list is without order, topics prompted out of my mind freely. Intentionally chaotic.
TLM – The Little Madeleine Topics;
1. IVF – In Vitro Fertilization, Madeleine and her twin brothers were created by IVF, In Vitro Fertilization technique (Test Tube Babies).
2. MD´s – Medical Doctors, Madeleine parents are both medical doctors, a General Practitioner her mother Kate and a Cardiologist her father Gerry.
3. EF – Economy and Finance, It seems that the Mc Cann couple is in a good economic and financial position.
4. MMC – Madeleine Missing Claim, Madeleine disappearance was detected by her mother Kate the evening of Thursday 3 of May 2007 from one of the Mark Warner summer resort apartments they have rented in the Ocean Club premises located in Algarve, Portugal.
5. S – Sniffer Dogs - Special trained “sniffer dogs¨ have detected blood traces and corpse smell in the apartment where allegedly Madeleine were abducted and within a car rented by the Mc Cann´s 25 days after her disappearance.
6. SPDR, Scientific Police Data Retrieval - Ultraviolet special sensors unveiled blood traces within the apartment, three months after her missing. In the interim the apartment was rented to other people.
7. KC – Kate Claim - Kate declares emphatically that Madeleine was kidnapped, probably via the windows while they were dining 100 meters away but within Ocean Club premises.
8. MPW - Madeleine Presence Witnesses. There were witnesses, employees of the resort facility that declared to see Madeleine alive “not too long” before her missing. It has not been published names, dates and times of this crucial event yet. Perhaps this information belong to the Summary Secrecy.
9. TD - The Dinner. There were publications saying that Mc Cann´s friends, the ones that were dining together, allegedly four friend couples celebrating something at the “Tapas” restaurant, and consumed 14 bottles of wine!. Being 8 adults it means almost two medium size wine bottles per person.
10. PPR - Portuguese Police Reaction. Police reaction to the missing, initially, was considered too slow and relaxed.
11. C - Communications within the neighborhood, were extensively studied, many triangulations performed but very few was published about their findings.
12. N – Neighborhood, The neighborhood both in space and time were not yet exhaustively studied/published, strange behaviors, strange movements, strange people.
13. MFF - Madeleine Family and Friends. Madeleine’s family and Mc Cann´s friends circle apparently has not been thoroughly investigated yet.
14. TM – The Mc Cann´s. Who are really Kate and Gerry, as individuals, as a family, as professionals.
15. MISA - Madeleine Info Semantic Analysis. There is enough Madeleine case information as to justify a central huge database. Innocent people issue opinions but also criminals even risking themselves in order to satisfy their ego. Evidences are surely distributed all over the cyberspace saying something valuable. .

All these topics could be seen as “nodes” of a graph, and you may map them onto a sheet of paper and start to make connections among them. Take into account that each node implies the beginning of something focused on it. Let’s take as an example topics 5 and 1.
Topic 5 talks about sniffer dogs. That’s really something astonishing and revolutionary. I have a doctorate in Physics and never imagined that the smelling sense of some animals were so sophisticated and precise. We are continuously evaporating ourselves, loosing dead cells and particles by millions daily and fortunately replaced by new ones. And when we dye by sure some important and irreversible chemical changes arise in our organisms and accordingly virtually spraying the media with corpse smell. It’s perfectly conceivable then that those dogs could detect and discriminate living and corpse smells but we have to question: at what level?. Technically we talk about “power resolution”, for example capacity to detect one in a million (1:1,000,000) particles . It means that meanwhile specific people traces within a closed environment are higher than that ratio dogs could detect it. But what happens as time passes by?. Could dogs differentiate well after weeks and months?. Could they discriminate traces if many people has passed and or stayed in the same environment for hours and days?.
Topic 1 is very suggestive. I’ve read articles saying that the first suspected reported publicly that he was deeply impressed because Madeleine was about the same age and looking like her daughter and that she was born via the same IVF technique. Another expansion of this item would surge of the technique features itself. It needs two parts: an egg and a spermatozoid. From the chromosomal combination a new creature is born with a unique DNA. In this case both parent DNA should be matched against the Madeleine NDA. Was it already performed?.
As an exercise I dear to make my own “graph” of this initial list. Each “arc” connecting two nodes would mean a relationship among them that should be exhaustively investigated. Do not be afraid to make errors. These nodes and all graphs are only logical aids to make some coherent hypothesis. These human graphs are extremely different from logical graphs found in Mathematic, Physics, Economy, Politics and Social Sciences. They are extremely “fuzzy”. Nodes are continuously disappearing and new ones are created as new evidences make us to see the truth better and closer.
